The Story Behind Tampoori’s Bubblegum Collection

The Story Behind Tampoori’s Bubblegum Collection

Every Tampoori print has a story, but Bubblegum is extra special. It was born from an unexpected moment in the studio: just a batch of fabric that came out looking so unexpectedly joyful that we pinned it to the wall and left it there for weeks.

That piece became the seed of everything.

Where the inspiration comes from

Think fruit-flavoured bubblegum from your neighbourhood kiosk. The colours that stained your tongue. Blowing bubbles just to see how big they could go before they popped.

Bubblegum was created to capture exactly that feeling: unrestrained, playful, full of light. The palette draws from the pastel and neon tones of 90s bubblegum wrappers: pinks, oranges, lilacs, and blues that felt sugary and a little bit forbidden.

During Tampoori's early years, our artisans spent a lot of time just experimenting and chasing colours that felt like sunshine. One afternoon a batch produced an explosion of colour so joyful that everyone in the room stopped. We didn't have a name for it yet. We just knew we had found something.

How we make it

Bubblegum looks effortless, but it's one of our more detailed processes, second only to our batik-making process..

  • Colours are layered slowly to achieve that signature bright-yet-soft glow
  • Each batch goes through multiple rounds of dyeing to get the bubble-like swirls just right
  • We use natural fibres only: cotton, linen, or rayon so the colours move and breathe the way they should

Because every yard is dyed by hand, no two pieces are identical. You're not buying a repeat pattern off a roll. You're getting a specific batch, made on a specific day, by specific hands. That's what makes it worth owning.

Why it became a Tampoori signature

The first time we took Bubblegum to a market, people were smiling before they even got close enough to touch the fabric. They didn't know the name. They just recognised the feeling.

It's been one of our most loved collections ever since. And within the collection, one colourway keeps finding its way into people's hands above all others is Seaglass. That soft blue-green combination does something to people that we've stopped trying to explain. It just makes them happy.

How to wear it and live with it

For clothing:

  • Pair a Bubblegum top with denim for an easy everyday look
  • A statement dress in Bubblegum needs nothing else: it is the outfit
  • Layer with neutrals like white, tan, black  to let the colours do the work

For home:

  • Bubblegum napkins instantly brighten any table setting
  • Cushion covers add a pop of colour to calm, neutral spaces
  • A table runner makes even an ordinary weeknight dinner feel like something

Bubblegum sits at the heart of what Tampoori believes fabric should be: something that makes you feel something the moment you see it.
